About

Kristen Mukai is a Japanese-American video game developer who enjoys painting packaged foods that evoke nostalgia. Her painting "Bulldog" was featured in the 29th annual Local Artist Showcase at the Seattle Public Library and her “Anpanman” mural can be seen at chef Shota Nakajima’s restaurant Taku in Capitol Hill, Seattle.

She identifies with the Japanese style of “heta uma,” or “bad but good,” a style that celebrates the janky, the imperfect, and finds pleasure in the unskillful.
